live butterflies for release is good for the environment“People in the wedding business say the eco-friendly or 'green' wedding has arrived,” says Mireya Navarro of the NY Times. More and more couples these days are considering how to plan a wedding or special event in a way that does not take away from the elegance and glamour of the occasion, but is eco-friendly and good for the earth. We'd like to share with you about how an orange monarch or painted lady butterfly will help the earth stay green. Also, find out how our plantable paper products are perfect for your environmentally conscious plans. The following is a list of objectives we have achieved in order to be classified as eco-friendly:

  • Objective #1 - No pollution will be generated in the manufacturing or growing of our products.
  • Objective #2 - Production waste in the manufacturing or growing of the product must be 100% recyclable.
  • Objective #3 - Nothing can be taken from the earth (no footprint) in order to produce our products.
  • Objective #4 - Our products must be fully recyclable and will not add more waste to land fills after consumption.
  • Objective #5 - Our plantable papers must be made from recycled cotton rag left over from textile mills.
  • Butterfly Fact - Releasing butterflies helps keep the earth green by pollinating plants.

We are proud to have a strong line of products that are not just eco-neutral, but are actually good for the earth. Our beautiful and vibrantly orange monarch butterflies and our colorful painted lady butterflies are pollinators essential for plant life and food production. Releasing butterflies is also considered a safe and healthy practice by many in the scientific community. Click HERE to see more of what they have to say regarding the science behind their opinions. Additionally, our plantable papers are made of 100% cotton instead of tree pulp and will sprout new plants when planted in the soil.

No pollution will be generated in the manufacturing or growing of our products.

Live Monarch Butterflies - are grown on a farm with thousands of milkweed plants. These plants are the 'opposite' of pollution in that they absorb carbon dioxide, commonly known as greenhouse gas, and help reduce the amount of pollution in the air. All of the materials involved in producing monarch butterflies are life based (carbon) - with milkweed being the main ingredient. After the plant is eaten down by the caterpillars, they will grow back even bigger with many more leaves. There is no pollution generated during the process and all that is consumed in our operation is water and a minimal amount of electricity.

Handmade Plantable Seeded Papers - are made completely by hand, not in a large factory or paper mill with large energy consuming machines. Again, only a minimal amount of electricity is used in the paper-making process and most of the energy comes primarily from human power.

Production waste in the manufacturing or growing of the product must be 100% recyclable.

Live Butterflies - The primary waste that comes from growing butterflies is caterpillar poop! Yes, poop. The secondary waste product is the left over stems that the caterpillars did not eat. Both the remaining plant material and the caterpillar poop (frass) can be composted and used as a very nutrient rich fertilizer to help the plants grow large and leafy for the next generation of caterpillars.

Handmade Plantable Seeded Papers - well, this one is easy. The only waste that comes from paper making is water. It takes about 4-5 gallons of water to make a pound of handmade cotton paper. This is a lot of water! Fortunately, we are able to reuse the water from each batch with only having to add just a little bit more each time due to loss from spillage and evaporation.

Nothing can be taken from the earth (no footprint) in order to produce our products.

Live Butterflies - are grown on a small butterfly farm with thousands of milkweed plants. As mentioned above, these plants are the 'opposite' of pollution in that they absorb carbon dioxide, commonly known as greenhouse gas, and help reduce the amount of pollution in the air. The farm is completely self contained in that it does not require any outside raw materials. Our plants are fully recycled and reused for each generation and our butterflies reproduce and breed on their own (with a little help from some special mood lighting and some romantic music). Additionally, if the farm were to close business and shut down today, the remaining land can be used for other agricultural uses without the trouble of having to clean the soil and purge out any hazardous waste.

Handmade Plantable Seeded Papers - are made from 100% cotton rag which comes from left over material from the textile industry. Everyone needs clothes, so we can justify the need for textile products. However, instead of having cotton grown specifically for us, we choose to use left over cotton from textile mills in the form of rags.

Our products must be fully recyclable and will not add more waste to land fills after consumption.

Live Butterflies - not only do they not add waste to our landfills, they are incredibly beneficial to life on earth. They are important pollinators that help plants reproduce as they flutter from flower to flower. Then, when they die, they become a nutritious food source for other animals such as birds, lizards, and even other insects.

Handmade Plantable Seeded Papers - are 100% biodegradable and are also good for the earth. The cotton pulp biodegrades quickly and will add as a fertilizer to the newly germinated seeds that will form into beautiful flowers if properly cared for.

Our plantable papers must be made from recycled cotton rag left over from textile mills.

We are very careful to use only cotton rag to create our plantable paper. There are several reasons. First, cotton rag is a natural byproduct of the textile industry and helps reduce waste. Second, cotton rag is a very pure form of cotton for paper making and allows us to make beautifully soft and wonderfully textured specialty paper. Cotton rag is truly the best-of-both-worlds for the paper making environmentalist.

Releasing butterflies helps keep the earth green by pollinating plants.

Butterfly farming is THE greenest industry in the wedding and party planning market. There is no question that a butterfly farm is not only not harmful to our ecosystem, but it's actually beneficial to the environment. We help reduce pollution. Even better - when the butterflies are released into the environment, they become a vital part of the circle of life. As they flutter from flower to flower, they are unknowingly helping the plants to breed, form seeds, and start new seedlings. And then those plants, also unknowing, help draw carbon dioxide (greenhouse gas) out of the air and process it for food and energy. It's an amazing lifecycle - and one that you can be a part of by releasing live monarch and painted lady butterflies!
